According to last year’s Nielsen poll on New Year’s resolutions, 37 percent of Americans resolve to stay fit and healthy, 32 percent want to lose weight, and 28 percent want to enjoy life to the fullest. You know your clients are making these New Year’s resolutions, and struggling to stay motivated to keep them. You also know you can help them achieve some of their desired results – but you do need to tell them.

Resolved: Getting Fit and Healthy

If you are a massage practitioner, you know massage can reduce soreness after exercise, help muscles stay lengthened and hydrated, and help joints stay lubricated. You know it can even help prevent injury. If you are another type of wellness practitioner, you know the benefits of your treatments too. But your clients may not know what you know. This is a great opportunity to educate them, show you care about their concerns, and offer at least part of the solution.

Getting Your Point Across

How will you get this information to them? Explain it to them when they come into your office. Write a blurb on your postcard mailings or emails. You can also give your clients something to read with more in-depth information. For example: a brochure on the benefits of your work, a newsletter that explains how your work supports an exercise program, or other specific client education material.

Say It with a Postcard

How to say it? Here are some massage examples that speak to common New Year’s resolutions:

  • Massage can help you keep your resolutions! Keep up your new exercise program. Massage decreases soreness, and helps keep muscles and joints healthy.
  • Break a habit without the stress! Come in for massage. When you relax with massage, you are less likely to reach for a cigarette or sugary treat.
  • Massage carries no guilt. When you want to restart your resolution, it’s a great way to pay it forward. Massage provides comfort without calories!

Keep Clients Coming Back

Reaching out in this way makes you more integral to your clients’ lives. It helps you become more of a trusted source of information and help. It shows that you stay up on the research, it shows that you believe in what you do, and it shows that you are an authority on not only the type of work you do, but also on self-care. This helps establish you as someone who can be an ongoing source of support, and it will keep your clients coming in regularly for their good health.
